LOCATION AND CLIMATE

As you might expect, olives grown in cooler areas where there is more moisture (rainfall and dew) exhibit leaner, more restrained characteristics.  This doesn’t however mean that great oil can now be made in Iceland – you need a minimum amount of sunshine to make your Extra Virgin Olive Oil taste remarkable, similarly to tomatoes or stone fruit.

Olive trees are sensitive to winter freeze (the Casaliva cultivar is more resistant to cold, hence being grown in the Garda region).  It is also easier to farm organically where the climate is more stable and less chemical sprays are required to keep the trees healthy.

OLIVE MATURITY

Here’s the thing – all olives are green.  When they become fully mature, they turn black.
Olive maturity at the time of harvest is a major factor in flavour and quality: olives harvested earlier (green olives) feature more bitter, grassy characteristics, with lower yields and with the highest anti-oxidant content.  The oil is a much more intense green colour and has a longer shelf-life.  In terms of production, milling can take longer with green olives (a longer malaxation - the action of slowly churning milled olives to release droplets of oil - is needed and can be more complicated) but the results are far superior!  Don’t choose olive oil from over mature fruit: it lacks all the potential goodness and flavour.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN GROVE AND MILL

People who care passionately about what they make and follow it personally every day have the capacity to create products with far higher quality, with integrity, and that taste of where they come from.  They are also able to do this by caring for the environment they inhabit.

Our Policies

Delivery
  • We have worked extremely hard to develop packaging that is robust enough to withstand international high-speed delivery, yet to be respectful to the environment.
  • We work closely with our courier companies to ensure your Olive Oil reaches you in time for Christmas.
  • Please ensure you provide a delivery address that a courier can reach during office hours (09.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday). If delivery is attempted before Christmas but nobody is there to receive it, Frantoi is unable to accept responsibility for this.
  • In case of extraordinary circumstances (such as natural disasters or severe weather), Frantoi assures you that we will do everything possible to get your delivery to you as soon as humanly possible.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil is fragile and should not be exposed to extreme temperatures. Below 6°C olive oil may solidify. In this case, move the oil to an area where the ambient temperature is between 12-15°C where it will return to its liquid state. See our suggestions on how to store your olive oil for further information.
  • Delivery outside the EU: If you request delivery outside the EU, your order may be subject to import duties and taxes which are levied when the delivery reaches the specified destination. Please note that the recipient will remain responsible for payment of any such import duties and taxes. We have no control over these charges and cannot predict their amount. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
Returns Policy
Damaged goods upon arrival

We have gone to every length to ensure your Olive Oil reaches you in perfect condition, but in the case of any breakages in transit, please contact us immediately with photographs of the damage.
We will either make a refund of eligible claims or replace any damaged items.

Returning A Package

As we are based in Italy, we are aware it would be very expensive for you to return any goods. In any case, we suggest you get in touch if you have any queries at all about your order.

Unclaimed Packages

It’s essential that you provide us with an address that a courier can reach during working hours Monday – Friday. If you are not in, the delivery will be held briefly whilst they attempt to re-deliver. In the case that multiple deliveries are attempted without success, Frantoi reserves the right to charge you a handling fee to cover return shipping and courier companies’ administrative costs.

Terms of Service

Last updated: September 30, 2020

Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”, “Terms of Service”) carefully before using the frantoi.org website (the “Service”) operated by Frantoi di Elizabeth Berger (“us”, “we”, or “our”).

Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, users and others who access or use the Service.

By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms then you may not access the Service.

September 2020 update:

We currently live in very unpredictable times and we are aware that our service might be affected by the current Covid19 crisis, or tariff changes in the USA.  We will do our utmost to deliver your order without a hitch, but if our business if forced not to operate because of Covid19 regulations, or if the current US administration’s changes to tariffs on certain European goods (including olive oil), these might adversely affect our service in a way that’s beyond our control.
Please be assured that we are keeping extremely close to these matters and will do our very best to minimise any disruptions to the arrival of your Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Brexit: On January 1st 2021, the United Kingdom will leave the European Union and its single market. Currently we don’t know how this might affect transport or duty increases, but these are likely.  We will therefore not delivery any package to the UK if this is not going to land in the country before the 31st of December 2020, or until the regulatory framework is clear as we currently can’t quantify the delivery costs.
At this moment we don’t know which will be the data policies with regards to the UK users of our site and services. Certain parts of our website might not be available to UK users after the 31st of December 2020. We will do our upmost to comply with any changes in order to ensure minimum disruption to UK users.
We should however note that with regards to tariffs, the onus remains the responsibility of the recipient (as these are local taxation matters) and we do not take responsibility if these are applied by any country to your order.
