Brilliant Restaurants in Alto Adige

A couple of recent trips to Alto Adige have left me super impressed by the local restaurant scene.

Here are some recommendations of places not to miss.

Schlosshof Baumann, Presule
A beautifully minimalist approach to both the aesthetic and also the menu. Highly attentive to local, seasonal produce and with a good amount of flair.

Nomad Restaurant, Castelrotto
Delicious culinary precision. Extremely interesting tasting menu that we recommend trying. This is a true highlight of the region bringing inspiration and intrigue to local ingredients.

ZumLowen, Tesimo
Family run and a legacy to the dearly missed mother and chef Anna Matscher, this is a restaurant that shows its heart on its sleeve. A great choice for a special occasion, the menu is regionally rooted with attentive selection of flavours suited to contemporary tastes and with an exceptional wine list.

Fronthof
If you are looking for a really good traditional Tirolean menu this is the perfect place with an incredibly warm alpine welcome and well chosen local ingredients – many of which come from their own farm.

Rifugio Tschafon
If you wish to spend a couple of days trekking, it’s truly worth the uphill climb to reach Rifugio Tschafon where some sort of paradise reigns nestled at the edge of the tree line. They have their own quite extensive vegetable garden and work carefully in the kitchen. Truly worth a visit.
